While it is always nice to have a modern sports car like the new A90 Supra, let’s be real, there is just something about that MK4 vibe that Toyota purists never stop chasing. Well, it is time to do something about that. So long as the rear end of your new GR Supra is the only thing everybody sees as you fly by, it might as well look as good as it goes, right? We got our hands on Morimoto’s new MK4-inspired tail lights for the A90 chassis, and after testing and installing them ourselves, we can confirm they hit the nail on the head when it comes to quality, performance, and style. Let’s dig into these A90 Supra XB LED tail lights and walk through exactly how they go on your car.
Two Styles Inspired by the Classic MK4
First and foremost, there are two different versions of the new tail lights for the A90 Supra. If you want something that is OEM-plus with those round optics inside, the Redline version is the way to go. It leans hard into the classic look while keeping things clean and factory-correct in tone. If you want a slightly more neutral, aggressive appearance, there is a smoked lens version that shares the exact same internals. Both are available right now, and the choice really comes down to personal taste. We appreciate that Morimoto did not water down the smoked version, you get identical performance and function no matter which lens you pick.

The whole point of these lights is that markv-inspired styling, and Morimoto nailed it. If you have been shopping around for MK4-style Supra tail lights, you already know how hard it is to find something that captures the retro shape without looking cheap or aftermarket. These do not have that problem. The optics, the depth, and the housing all read as a proper factory-grade upgrade.
Fitment and Plug-and-Play Wiring
These are a direct bolt-on fitment for all A90 Supras from 2020 and newer. They use all the stock mounting points, they fit seamlessly with the surrounding sheet metal and bumper lines, and they should not take more than an hour or two per side to install. That is a big deal because a lot of aftermarket lights fight you on fitment, but these dropped right into the factory location during our install with no drama.
On the electrical side, these brand new Morimoto XB LED tail lights are designed to be completely plug-and-play with the factory wire harness with zero modifications whatsoever. They plug right into the factory connectors for the stock tail lights on all US-spec cars, and they do not need any extra resistors, modules, or adapters. That means a completely error-free, plug-and-play install. If you have ever wrestled with hyperflash or CAN bus errors on other LED upgrades, you will really appreciate how painless this one is.

If you want to compare these against other options out there, it is worth browsing the wider selection of 2020+ Supra LED tail lights to see just how clean this plug-and-play setup really is. In our experience, it is one of the easiest wiring situations we have dealt with on a modern sports car.
Four Optics and the Welcome Sequence
Inside the lights there are four primary optics that make up basically all of the function here, and again, this is totally inspired by the old-school look of the MK4 tail lights. These optics function as the low-intensity parking light and the high-intensity brake light. Last but not least, the optics also have the ability to act as a pretty cool welcome sequence when the parking lights are turned on.
There is a toggle switch on the back of the tail light so you can either leave it on or off, depending on whether you prefer the welcome sequence. When your parking lights are turned on, the optics will illuminate sequentially from one side to the other, giving a genuinely slick effect. Obviously this does absolutely nothing for performance, but hey, it is pretty cool, and being able to disable it means you are never locked into a look you do not want.

Compliance and Warranty
Like all of the Morimoto tail lights we offer, these are designed to comply with all DOT and SAE regulations for rear-facing lamps. We at Morimoto pride ourselves on offering stylish, high-performance, and safe products for serious enthusiasts, which is why all new Morimoto products are verified by trusted third-party labs for compliance. On top of that, they are backed by our industry-leading 5-year warranty. That combination of legal compliance and long warranty coverage is exactly what you want when you are putting real money into a rear-end upgrade. You can find the full lineup of Morimoto XB Supra tail lights and confirm your exact fitment before ordering.
How to Install the A90 Supra XB LED Tail Lights
The install is not that bad. We walked through the whole thing, and while there are quite a few fasteners involved, none of the steps are difficult. Give yourself an hour or two per side and take your time with the bumper clips.
Step 1: Remove the Upper Trim and Torx Screws
Raise the rear hatch of your car. Unscrew and remove the plastic bump stop on the plastic trim panel above the tail light on each side. Pry up the plastic panel above the tail light, releasing the three tabs securing it as you go, and do this on both sides. Then remove the two T15 Torx screws (one per side) that were covered by the plastic panel.
Step 2: Free the Rear Bumper Cover
Remove the three 8mm bolts from behind the rear wheel. Removing the wheel can make this easier, but it is not required. With those three bolts securing the wheel liner removed, pull back the liner and remove the 8mm bolt securing the bumper cover to the body. As you remove this bolt, watch to make sure the washer does not catch on the bracket, since this will prevent it from coming out. If it starts to catch, gently pry the bolt away from the bracket as you remove it. Release the three clips on each side of the bottom of the bumper behind the wheel by depressing the center and pushing them out, then repeat on the opposite side.

Next, remove the four 8mm bolts from the underside of the bumper cover. Pull the side of the rear bumper cover away from the vehicle, releasing it from the tabs that secure it, then continue to the rear of the bumper cover and pull it away, releasing the tabs beneath the tail light. These clips can be difficult and moderate force may be required, especially if your bumper cover has never been removed before. Once freed on the sides and beneath the tail lights, you will have enough room to remove the tail light later. The center portion of the bumper cover can actually remain attached to the car.
Step 3: Access the Interior Mounting Nuts
Move to the interior of the hatch. Remove the floor mat or liner if equipped, then pick up the floor panel of the hatch and slide it forward toward the front of the car to get it out of the way. Remove the two push clips in the rear panel of the hatch using a trim removal tool. Rotate the two latches on the rear access panel 90 degrees to unlock, open the access panel, and using a T30 Torx driver remove the two Torx bolts behind it. Remove the latch bezel by prying up in the middle with a trim tool while pulling back the weather seal at the top, then pull up on the rear interior panel to release the four clips at the top (moderate force required).

Remove the push tab securing the carpet on each side by prying up the center of the clip and then prying out the base. Pull back the side carpet and remove the 10mm nut from inside the access hole behind the carpet on each side of the car. Take care not to drop this nut as you remove it. On the right side of the car, turn the latch on the side access panel clockwise 90 degrees and remove the panel. Through this access hole there are two 10mm nuts: the first is located to the right of the fuse box, and the second is just behind the fuse box, which you will have to remove by feel since it is not visible.
Step 4: Remove the Old Tail Lights
With the three tail light nuts removed, pull the tail light straight back off the car. Using a pry tool, pry the wire clip off the lower tab of the tail light. On the connector, pull back the red clip to unlock it, depress the black tab, and pull back to disconnect the tail light. On the left side of the car there is no access panel, so flex the side carpet liner forward and down to reach the two remaining nuts. Take care to only flex the carpet enough to prevent creasing. With the hardware removed, disconnect the connector and take the left tail light off the vehicle.
Step 5: Configure and Install the New Morimoto Lights
Before installing, configure the welcome sequence using the white connectors on the back of the tail light housing. If you want the welcome sequence disabled, leave the blue wire connected. If you want the welcome sequence enabled so it fires when your parking lights turn on, disconnect the blue wires. Connect the new Morimoto XB tail light to the car the same way you removed the old one and slide the red tab on the connector forward to lock it in place. Secure the wire harness to the tab on the bottom of the assembly as it was on the factory units, then fit the tail light back onto the car and reinstall the three nuts to secure it. Repeat on the other side.
Step 6: Test and Reassemble
Before buttoning everything up, get in the car and confirm all the functions are working properly: the parking lights, the brakes, and the welcome sequence as you intended. Once you are happy, reinstall your rear bumper and the hatch interior trim in the reverse order that you removed them.
That is it. If you are looking to upgrade the tail lights on your new A90 Supra and you want that retro MK4 vibe, look no further. And if you are shopping accessories for the rest of the car, it is worth browsing what is out there for the A90 Supra while you are at it. These XB LED tail lights are a standout upgrade that respects the car’s heritage while keeping the install refreshingly simple.
